The Greatest Gift

The Greatest Gift

The greatest gift we can give someone is our prayers. It is CHRISTmas, and the season of gift-giving is upon us. It all began 2000 years ago when God gave us His greatest gift of His precious Son at Christmas, and today, we carry on a tradition of giving gifts at Christmas.

But – what if we don’t have gifts to give this Christmas? 2020 has been a difficult year for many of us. Some of us have lost our jobs. Some of us have lost our homes. Some of us have lost heart.

More than ever, this Christmas 2020 is a good time to remember that the greatest gift we can give anyone is our prayers — and before I try to tell you that prayers don’t cost anything, let me stop myself.

Prayers may not cost anything monetarily, but prayers are one of the most costly gifts we can give anyone because praying is hard work. It requires a sacrifice of our time and our hearts. Continual prayer requires commitment. Real prayer that goes beyond, “God, please bless ___,” requires thought and effort.

Whether 2020 has been an easy or difficult year for us, we have the ability to give our loved ones our greatest gift — our prayers.

As we think about our prayer gifts for our friend or family member, let us commit to praying for him or her not only this Christmas season but throughout 2021. Daily. Unrelenting. Perseverant prayer.

In closing, let me thank you for your readership and acknowledge God’s gift to me of 20,000 followers. When I started writing on April 27 of this year, I did not imagine that there would be 20,000 of you by year’s end. Thank you to God for you, and thank you to you for reading. You’re readership is a gift to me, and in return I offer you not only my writings but also my commitment to pray for you daily.
