Satan’s Chief Concern is to Keep Us From Praying

Satan trembles when we pray. “The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayer-less studies, prayer-less work, and prayer-less religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.” Quote from Samuel Chadwick.

Satan doesn’t want us empowered by our omnipotent God

Prayer connects us to the same awesome, powerful God that spoke our universe into existence. No wonder Satan’s chief concern is to keep us from praying. We can work so incredibly hard as human beings. We can worry ourselves silly and run ourselves ragged and though our intentions be good and our labors be great, Satan laughs if our labors lack prayer because he knows that we are laboring in our own frail, human capacity instead of co-laboring with the power of our God, our Savior, and our Holy Spirt supporting us.

Devoted, undistracted prayer is hard work, but the rewards are worth the effort

Devoted, thoughtful prayer time is hard work. Sometimes, just getting seated at the table with our Bible and prayer journal seems impossible. The phone rings. The baby wakes up early. Our boss sends an unexpected text.

Be encouraged. Our effort is so worth the rewards we will reap.

Start your morning devotions before Satan knows your awake

Let’s leave our Bible and our prayer journal out on the table the night before. In the morning, let’s grab our cup of favorite brew, and get seated at the table with our head bowed and our hands folded before Satan knows we are awake — before we even change out of our pajamas.

My experience is that the odds of my observing my Morning Devotions diminishes with every moment that passes after my feet hit the floor in the morning. If I do not do my devotions immediately when I awake, the odds that I will get them done decreases as the day goes on.

Don’t delay. Start practicing Morning Devotions

So, let us not delay. Let’s not let Satan mock our prayer-less beliefs, studies, and labors. Let’s make sure our efforts are covered with thoughtful prayers to our Lord. Let’s make Satan tremble because we devote our undivided time and attention to our God in prayer and Bible reading. Let’s make the heart of God sing by practicing Morning Devotions.
