Not Everyone
Not Everyone
Jesus finishes His teaching in Matthew 7 with words that always give me pause. Not everyone who calls out, “Lord! Lord!” will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. There will be people who will have prophesied and cast out demons in His name, and He will turn them away saying He never knew them.
Wow! That could seem a little disturbing to some of us.
Jesus says only those who do the will of His Father in Heaven will enter, and anyone who hears His teaching and follows it is wise. If we want to enter into heaven, then we need to know what is the will of the Father, what did Jesus teach, and then we need to do both.
What is the will of the Father? It is that we believe in Jesus Christ as God’s perfect Son and our Savior. ” . . . [God] gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
What did Jesus teach? “I [Jesus] am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
Our conduct is important. How we treat others is important. Jesus clearly commanded us to love others as we love ourselves.
But our hearts and our minds need to be our first order of business. Have we yielded our hearts and our lives to God? Do we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior?
Lord, I don’t want to get so caught up in doing good that I fail to examine the attitudes of my heart and the beliefs I hold in my mind. I want to yield my life to You. I want You to be my God and my Savior. Please forgive me of everything I have done wrong and everything I will inevitably do wrong. Please use me every day I have remaining on this earth for Your glory. In Your Son’s name, I pray. Amen .
Blessings,
Robyn
