Amy Carmichael

Amy Beatrice (Wilson) Carmichael was born in Millisle, County Down, Ireland and served as a missionary to India, without furlough, for 55 years. During her time there she founded a mission and opened an orphanage. She authored many books about her missionary work in Dohnavur. At her death, she requested that no stone be put on her grave; instead, children she had cared for put a bird bath over it with the inscription, “Amma,” which means mother in the Tamil language.

Born December 16, 1867.
Departed for Home January 18, 1951.
